About the role
The Bookkeeping & Finance Intern role is for a student who wants to see how a small business handles money in real time. You'll work alongside our owner on the numbers side: reconciling daily POS to QuickBooks, building weekly P&L snapshots, and learning the finance discipline that keeps an independent café open.
If you're an accounting or finance major and you've never seen a real set of books, this is the most useful 10 to 15 hours a week you'll spend this semester.
What you'll do: • Reconcile daily POS, tip pool, and Square deposits against QuickBooks • Help close the books at the end of each week and month • Build a weekly P&L snapshot the owner uses to make staffing decisions • Track vendor invoices and help with accounts payable • Pull and tag receipts so we're not scrambling at tax time • Sit in on quarterly reviews with our outside CPA
What we're looking for: • Accounting or finance major (or strong interest in either) • Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online or willingness to learn fast • Comfortable in Excel or Sheets at the formula level • Discreet; you'll see real financial information about the business • 10 to 15 hours per week, generally late mornings and afternoons
